What to visit near Fano: all the beauty of Le Marche

Are you on vacation in Fano and looking for some ideas to take a break from your beach umbrella vacation? There are many, many things to visit.

Here we try to give you some suggestions to build an itinerary that allows you to discover ancient suggestions, unique cultural heritages, hidden villages. And to get to know more closely a Region that is often silent but has a voice (indeed, many voices) ready to tell wonderful stories.

What to see in the Marche region in Fano?

1. Underground Fano and ancient Roman traces.

When you walk around the downtown Fano, you are actually walking on a hidden world that holds the remains of the ancient splendors of the Roman colony Julia Fanestris.

An itinerary that begins in the basement of the Mediateca Montanari and arrives at the Domus found on the south side of Piazza XX Settembre, passing by the remains of theRoman Amphitheater along Corso Matteotti and the underground archaeological area of Sant'Agostino, where there are the remains of what is thought to be the Basilica designed by the architect Vitruvius and described in De Architettura.

2. The Fortuna Theater

The Fortune Theater Is definitely one of the symbols of the city.

Gold and white dominate in the striking neoclassical-style performance hall: three tiers of boxes and a balconied gallery overlook the stage, decorated with statues and Corinthian columns reminiscent of classical art.

Of note is the large and colorful curtain depicting an imaginary entrance of Emperor Caesar Octavian Augustus into the ancient Colonia Iulia Fanestris.

3. The walk of Lysippus

Have you ever heard of Lysippus? It is a bronze statue of a young athlete, dating back to the fourth century B.C., found in 1964 in Fano waters by two Fano fishing boats.

Unfortunately, it did not remain in the place where it was found but was transferred to the Getty Museum in Malibu. Despite this, however, you can find a faithful copy in the Saxony area.

It was placed at the end of the promenade that was named after Lysippus: a truly impressive pathway decorated with murals that recall the theme of the horizon. A piece of advice? Walk it at sunset: and it will be like taking a wonderful plunge between sea and art.

4. The Malatestine Fortress

Thanks to a very recent renovation, the Malatestian Fortress has once again become an anointed reference for cultural activities in the city of Fano.

It hosts a very rich program of cultural events: concerts, outdoor film screenings, evenings dedicated to the youngest, DJ sets for the youngest, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and much more.

5. At the Port in search of the ... Moretta!

Among the things to do in Fano There's one you can't miss: drinking a glass of authentic Moretta, the real thing, which fishermen used to drink after returning from the fishing trip.

Three layers: the special mix brandy, rum and aniseed, and coffee with its creaminess, all flavored with the ever-present lemon zest, of course served hot!
