What are the best beaches in the Marche region? The guide to discovering the sea of Marche

August 26, 2020

Seventeen resorts awarded the Blue Flag, the prestigious award that certifies great care for the environment and the quality of accommodations.

11 Green Flaglocations : beaches rated by pediatricians as child-friendly for cleanliness of sea and beach, depth of sea near shore, presence of facilities and play areas.

If you are wondering where to go to the beach in the Marche region, the answer is: wherever you want. Because the Adriatic coast does not end in Rimini, quite the contrary.

The beaches of Marche are like the whole region: plural! There are many, beautiful ones for all tastes: from rocky ones to immense stretches of sand, from hidden and wild ones to those equipped with the most modern comforts for families.

What's more... in Le Marche, the beauty you can discover doesn't just stop at the beach. Here, at every step, history, art, culture and nature meet and intertwine in a wonderful mix. Those who love hiking can dive into the greenery of the Sibillini Mountains; adventure seekers can discover the natural wonders of the Frasassi Caves; culture enthusiasts will be enchanted by the Leopardi-like pearls of Recanati and the majesty of the Sanctuary of Loreto.

And between an olive all'ascolana, a plate of vincisgrassi, and a brodetto, you'll soon discover how Marche is a beautiful treasure chest to open slowly to enjoy all it has to offer.

Conero's 6 most beautiful beaches

Let's start with Conero, one of the best known and most appreciated places when it comes to the Marche coast. This "almost mountain" (it is just over 500m high), green and lush, overlooking the sea, offers some of the most spectacular beaches in the entire region.

1) Two Sisters Beach

It is the best known and also the most beautiful of the entire Conero Riviera. Perhaps it is because of its white shoreline of pebbles and very clear sand that is reminiscent of Caribbean beaches; perhaps it is because it has a wild and unspoiled charm; or perhaps it is because when you arrive here the turquoise and crystal clear sea that plays chase with the white cliff overlooking the sea enraptures you at first glance, but the Due Sorelle Beach is one of the most beautiful places when it comes to the sea in the Marche region.

It is so named after the two almost twin stacks that watch sternly over the entire beach and are a real asset to snorkelers and divers.

Where it is located

Due Sorelle Beach is located in the municipality of Sirolo (AN).

How to reach

The beach can be reached only by sea. Ferry services are available that leave at various times throughout the day from nearby Sirolo, Numana and Marcelli.

There is also a path to the Beach that starts from the top of Mount Conero. It is the famous Wolf Pass path, now closed for safety reasons. However, those who love nature and want a priceless view of the beach from above can still walk it only as far as the pass (then avoiding the descent to the sea), a true panoramic balcony over the Adriatic coast.

Type of strand

Sand and Gravel.

Services

In this paradise there are no lidos or services. Everything is left as it is: wild and untouched. It is therefore important to have supplies of food and especially water.

2) Urbani Beach

It is located at the foot of the charming village of Sirolo, in a small and picturesque inlet. It is a crescent-shaped beach that overlooks a beautiful and incredibly transparent sea with colors that constantly change depending on the time of day. Moreover, thanks to a barrier of rocks that protects it, the water is almost always calm.

If you get here, remember not to miss Urbani Cave. Tucked away in the southern corner of the beach, it is a true beauty of nature that provides a stunning glimpse of the sea. Needless to say, at sunrise and sunset the spectacle is priceless.

Where it is located

Urbani Beach is located in the municipality of Sirolo (AN)

How to reach

The beach can be reached either by car, public transportation, or on foot starting from Sirolo.

CAR: There are 2 parking lots available, all of which are metered: the first is located shortly after leaving the town center and is the furthest from the beach. It is necessary to walk a few minutes before reaching it.

The second one is right next to the beach, but spots are few and especially during busy times it is difficult to find parking unless you arrive very early.

BUS/NAVETTE: There are several shuttles and local buses that take you to the beach and depart from different points in Sirolo.

WALKING: The path to get there is very beautiful and surrounded by greenery, and in some places gives spectacular views. Beware of one thing: on the way out, it is easily passable because it is all downhill; on the way back, it would be preferable not to face it during the hottest hours of the day.

Type of strand

Gravel and Thick Sand.

Services

There are some equipped establishments and small portions of free beach. The only sore point: the beach around 5 p.m. is already in shade.

3) Sassi Neri Beach

So named because of the dark rocks on the seabed and the rocks that surround it, Sassi Neri Beach is among the wildest beaches in Le Marche.

There are few amenities here; therefore, it is ideal for those who want to enjoy the sea in freedom and relaxation.

Where it is located

Sassi Neri Beach is located in the municipality of Sirolo (AN).

How to reach

The beach is easily accessible via bus and shuttle services that leave from Sirolo town.

You can also get there on foot from the nearby San Michele Beach or through several paths in the green Mount Conero. The route is slightly difficult, so it is advisable to wear suitable shoes.

Type of strand

Cliffs and dark rocks.

Services

There are no facilities on the beach, but several establishments can be found on nearby St. Michael's Beach.

4) Friars' Beach

The sea here is so crystal clear that you can see the sandy seabed with the naked eye. It is a well-organized beach perfect for snorkeling and for those who like to dive from the many rocks that emerge from the water. The most famous is the Bò rock, so called because it resembles the figure of an ox.

Where it is located

Spiaggia dei Frati is located in the town of Numana (AN).

How to reach

From the center of Numana you can take a paved road downhill and once you get to the Spiaggiola you can continue along the shoreline until you meet the Spiaggia del Frate

From Numana's marina walking along the beach you will first encounter the Spiaggiola and then the Spiaggia del Frate

From Piazza Nuova in Numana you can go down a marked path and arrive at Spiaggiola, then continue to Spiaggia del Frate

Type of strand

Fine sand and reefs.

Services

There is an establishment on the beach where umbrellas and sunbeds can be requested.
There is also a portion of free beach, but very limited.

5) Portonovo Bay

Portonovo Bay is a little gem of the Conero Riviera. It is also known as Baia Verde (Green Bay) because here the sea and nature come together in a big embrace that makes this area a must-see for those seeking clean sea in the Marche region.

The sea here is so turquoise in color that it almost looks like it was painted by a painter. The beach has rocks, pebbles and gravel and is suitable for everyone, adults and children.

Be careful, however: already a few meters from the beach the sea immediately becomes deep. Ideal context for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. It takes a little more care, however, for those with small children.

Portonovo is a popular destination for surfing and windsurfing enthusiasts who like to ride the waves in the southernmost part of the Bay near the Sailing Rock.

Where it is located

Portonovo Bay is located in the town of Poggio di Ancona (AN).

How to reach

The Bay is easily accessible by car or bus services.

If you arrive by car remember that parking is limited and largely reserved for customers of restaurants and bathing establishments. The advice is to leave your car in the large parking area present before you begin the descent that leads to the Bay. And from here take advantage of the continuous shuttle bus service.

The alternative is to use bus services that depart from Ancona and the main places on the Conero Riviera.

Type of strand

White pebble sand

Services

There are many establishments and restaurants in the bay.
Free beaches are few in number.

Marche: Beaches in the North

Among the seaside resorts in the Marche region, we cannot fail to mention the beaches in the north of the region. Very different from those of the Conero Park, the beaches in the north are a paradise for those who love immense stretches of sand.

Senigallia's "Velvet Beach"

What can I say... The name after all speaks for itself! As many as 14 km of shoreline so soft and delicate that it truly feels like velvet.

Senigallia's is the most famous beach in the Marche region. Since 1853 one of the most sought-after seaside resorts on the Adriatic coast and since 1997 continuously awarded the Blue Flag for its clear, clean and safe sea, quality hospitality and virtuous environmental management.

The beach is divided into two large areas:

The Levante Beach: this is the part that extends south of the historic center. It is definitely the chicest area, full of all kinds of services and with perhaps the most state-of-the-art establishments in the whole region (in some you can even book sunbeds and umbrellas via app). The beaches are huge and the sea perfect for indulging in a dip surrounded by all the amenities a seaside resort can offer.
At night then it is the nightlife area, where the hottest clubs in the area are concentrated.

The Spiaggia di Ponente: this is the part that extends north of the historic center and corresponds to the old mariNa. It is certainly less chaotic than the Spiaggia di Levante and is also closer to the center of Senigallia. Due to the presence of the offshore rocks, the sea here is practically always calm and the water remains shallow up to 30-40 m from the shore.

Baia Canaria: the beach to enjoy the sea with your 4-legged friend

Senigallia could not miss a beach dedicated to dogs: it is Baia Canaria, a wide and long beach where dogs can not only safely bathe, but can also take advantage of the many services dedicated to them:

- hot freshwater showers
- mobulity paths
- equipped play areas
- bowls, fresh water, cooling mats
- opportunities to consult trainers and veterinarians

Seagulls' Beach in Fano

The Beach is located in Modonna Ponte locality and is gravelly. It is perfect for both relaxation and fun because it is divided into 3 zones:

- one where children can play freely in areas specially arranged for them
- one where sportsmen can run and engage in motor activity
- one entirely dedicated to lovers of sun and relaxation

The sea is clear and crystal clear, and the beach is also very convenient due to the presence of parking a few dozen meters away.

Sassonia Beach in Fano

It is one of the most popular beaches for the people of Fanesi and in general for those who do not like sand. In fact, the name derives precisely from the characteristics of the beach, which has stones and pebbles brought downstream over the centuries by the Metauro River.
The area is very well equipped and also suitable for children.

Fano Lido

This is a historic beach that was established as a bathing establishment in the 9th century. The beach is equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, and play areas, and in the evening it is very popular due in part to the proximity of pizzerias, ice cream parlors, etc...

Lido really has its own charm, thanks in part to the lighthouse that towers not far away and the large promenade that allows for long walks. It is the perfect seaside resort in Le Marche for those traveling with young children: the seabed is shallow, sandy and the water is generally warm.

Marotta

Marotta is the perfect example of a seaside in the Marche region where there are not too many tourists and the sea is kept pristine and clean. The coastline is long and sandy and the beaches have all the necessary facilities.

Vallugola Beach - Pesaro

Vallugola Beach is located within the Bay of the same name, sandwiched between the headlands of Gabicce and Castel di Mezzo.

It is a not-very-large beach of gravel and pebbles, immersed in a well-preserved natural setting and made even more beautiful by the presence of the nearby Monte San Bartolo cliff. The sea is crystal clear and transparent with a seabed that slopes gently toward the open sea.
The small port nearby is also very nice.

Fiorenzuola di Focara

It is a medieval village overlooking the sea that is part of the Monte San Bartolo Regional Park. From the village, in just a 20-minute walk, it is possible to reach a beautiful little beach, ideal for lovers of relaxation and nature. There are no services here and the beach is totally immersed in the unspoiled greenery of the Park.

Marche sea: where to go in the south of the region?

Southern Marche also gives beautiful sea and large, well-equipped beaches. We mention two out of all: the Grottamare Beach and the San Benedetto del Tronto Beach.

Grottammare Beach

Grottammare overlooks the Adriatic coast amidst the green of its pine forests, orange groves and palm trees, with its golden beaches and the clear glow of the sea. The clean waters, the fine sandy shoreline, the enchanting views of the old town and the lush vegetation make up a fresco of forgotten colors and scents that make the town and its beach truly unique.

San Benedetto del Tronto

This is the famous Riviera of the Palms, certainly one of the most popular seaside resorts in the southern part of the region. In summer, the town takes on almost exotic traits due to the presence of as many as thirteen different varieties of palm trees.

Along the 4km of fine, golden sand bordering San Benedetto del Tronto are numerous equipped areas. Bathing establishments provide this stretch of coast with all the comforts for relaxing, fun-filled vacations for adults and children. Some lidos have specialized entertainers for the entertainment of young guests.

Summer evenings are full of events, with many guests and events that tell the story of the country's traditions.
